Save the Date for the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park Hawaiian Cultural Festival July 22

HAWAII NATIONAL PARK, Hawai‘i – The cultural festival is back! Save the date and join us on Saturday, July 22, 2023 for the 39th annual Hawaiian Cultural Festival, held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kahuku in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, FREE!   

Come listen to Hawaiian and island-inspired music by renowned performers including Kenneth Makuakāne, Russell Mauga, the Kīpapa Sisters and Kaʻū favorites, Keʻaiwa. Enjoy hula performances and try your hand at traditional Hawaiian crafts. Participating hālau and practitioners will be announced next month. The 39th annual Cultural Festival will be a fun-filled, family-friendly day that shares the connection of Hawaiian people to the ʻāina.  

Food and refreshments will be available for sale or bring your own picnic. Visitors can learn more about conservation through fun, interactive exhibits sponsored by leading conservation organizations on the festival grounds, located on the southwestern slopes of Mauna Loa in Kaʻū. 

Entrance into Kahuku and all events are free. The festival theme, E Ho‘omau, means “to continue.”  

“We are delighted to bring back the beloved Hawaiian Cultural Festival this year,” said Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park Superintendent Rhonda Loh. “The festival is an opportunity for the whole family to have fun while connecting to Hawaiian culture first-hand.”   

Sunscreen and a hat are recommended. Bring water, rain jacket, and ground mat or chair. This wonderful family experience is a drug- and alcohol-free event. Co-sponsored by Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, the Friends of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, and the Hawai‘i Pacific Parks Association.  
 
Kahuku is located on the mauka side of Highway 11 near mile marker 70.5, a 50-minute drive south of the park’s main entrance.
